FAQS of Joint Entrance Test

 

What is J.E.T.?

J.E.T. is Joint Entrance Test conducted by the Board for admissions to the diploma level engineering courses being run in the affiliated institutions of the Board.

 

Who is eligible to take J.E.T.?

JET is open to candidates who have passed the Matriculation or equivalent examination in Mathematics, Science (Physics , Chemistry and Biology) and English , provided that a candidate who has appeared for the qualifying examination but whose result has not been declared will be admitted provisionally to the Joint Entrance Test (J.E.T.). The admission of such candidates to the Entrance test will be purely provisional and will stand cancelled, if they fail to qualify themselves in the aforesaid qualifying examination or fails to produce the proof of his/her having qualified at the time of counseling. Such candidates will have no claim, whatsoever, for admission to any courses.

 

What is the maximum and minimum age limit for  taking  J.E.T.?

There is no maximum and minimum age limit for appearing in J.E.T.

 

Can a person who has passed +2 or higher qualification appear in the  J.E.T. ?

Yes. Provided that such a person should have cleared his matriculation examination.

 

What is the duration of a Diploma course ?

All Diploma courses are of three years (6 semesters) except the course of Mechanical Engineering (Tool and Die) which is of four years (Annual system). Every student getting admission in these courses will be bound to clear the course within six years from the date of admission.

 

When is J.E.T. held?

J.E.T. is normally held in the month of May/June. However, the application forms for J.E.T. have to be filled in the months of March/April.

 

How do I know about the availability and likely date of submission of  J.E.T. application forms?

The Board issues a series of advertisements in leading newspapers such as The Tribune (Chandigarh), Indian Express (Chandigarh), Ajit (Jalandhar) and Punjab Kesari (Jalandhar) regarding availability of prospectus (which includes application form for J.E.T.). These dates are also published on our web site. Normally, the prospectus are made available in the months of March/April.

 

Is prospectus a priced document?

Yes. Prospectus is a priced document.

 

From where do I purchase   OMR  application form for  JET prospectus?

The JET Prospectus along with OMR Application Form can be obtained from the office of the Board or  Designated Institutions affiliated to the Board or  designated branches of banks. OMR application form should be purchased from designated sources only, along with the prospectus. 

 

Can I fill and submit a photocopy of OMR application form?

For appearing in JET , the candidate has to submit only that OMR Application Form which has been supplied by the Board along with the Prospectus. A photocopy of this form is not valid.

 

Can I get the JET prospectus  and OMR application Form by post ?

Candidates may obtain JET-Prospectus by post  by sending a demand draft of desired amount in favour of the "Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education" payable at "Chandigarh", which should reach the office of the Board at least ten days before the last date of receipt of application form. The candidate must write his/her name, father's or mother's name and address on the reverse of the bank draft. However, the Board shall not be responsible for any postal delay, if the candidate does not receive prospectus in time.

 

Any request made to the Bank  for supply of Prospectus by post shall not be entertained.

In case copies of JET-Prospectus are sold out before the last date at any of the places then the same may be obtained from the office of the Board.

 

What is the cost of prospectus including application form for JET 2008?  

Cost of Prospectus including application form for JET 2008  is Rs. 250/-( same for all the categories).

 

How much examination fee is to be deposited with application form for JET 2008?

The examination fee  which is to be submitted in the form of cash and draft alongwith the completed application form) will be Rs. 260/- for SC/ST category and Rs. 520/- for other categories.

 

Is any concession given to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes?

The Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes are required to pay fee less than the fee   applicable to other candidates at the time of applying for J.E.T. However, the cost of the prospectus is same for candidates of all categories. The cost of the prospectus for the year 2008 will be Rs. 250/- and the examination fee ( which is to be submitted in the form of cash and draft alongwith the completed application form) will be Rs. 260/- for SC/ST category and Rs. 500/- for other categories.

 

In case the two parts of OMR application Form are separated , then what should I do ? 

In case the perforation between two parts of OMR application form is separated , then  both of these parts should be kept in same envelope supplied with the prospectus.

 

Where do I send filled application form for J.E.T.?

The application Form complete in all respects along with the examination fee in cash / draft favoring Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training may  be deposited  at the counters of the Bank branches as well as Institutes where the prospectus are being sold. Candidates are advised to  get the required acknowledgement from the Banks and Institutes. The completed applications form along with the examination fee can also be sent by the post to the Office of the Board at Plot No. 1-A, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh-160 036.

If the application is sent by post, the bank draft accompanying the application form has to be placed in the central fold of the OMR Application Form and is NOT to be pinned, stapled, pasted, tagged or otherwise affixed with the OMR Application Form No. other enclosures are to be sent with OMR application form. 

The candidates are advised to retain with them photocopies of the filled Application Forms and Bank Drafts being submitted by them. Duplicate Admit Card can only be issued after submission of copy of the submitted Application Form and Bank Draft/Acknowledgement Slip from the Bank. 

 

Caution : JET Application Form supplied along with this prospectus is to be decoded by a computer based machine. Therefore, the candidates are advised to pay particular attention towards filling of the OMR Application Form.

 

Are any documents to be enclosed with the J.E.T. application form?

Only bank draft for the requisite fee is to be enclosed alongwith application form, no other document is to be 

enclosed with this form.

Caution:-

·         OMR application form is to be read by micro processor based OMR machine, therefore, care should be taken that no document is stapled, pinned, pasted or otherwise attached with the OMR application form. Demand draft for requisite fee is to be placed in the center fold of the application form without attaching it to the application form.

·         The candidate must write prospectus number, name, father’s name and address on the reverse of the bank draft for requisite fee in order to ensure that the bank draft is not mis-placed.

·         The candidate must retain a photocopy of the bank draft and application form and receipt of post office if submitted by post under registered cover.

 

Is postage stamp needed for sending JET application form in the pre-addressed envelope supplied with the application form?

Yes. Postage is to be borne by the candidate for mailing, if JET application form is sent to the office of the Board by post.

 

Will I get a receipt from the Board after the Board receives my application form?

The Board issues a receipt for all the forms which are received at the counter of the Board. The details of forms received through post or by other such means are displayed on the web site ( www.punjabteched.com / www.punjabteched.net ) after the form has been received by OMR.

 

How can I make correction in the JET application form after I have submitted the same?

The candidates must fill the application form with due diligence and the Board  will not make amendments in the JET application forms as it is not possible to incorporate amendments for a large number of candidates appearing in JET, However a request for amendment can be sent to the Board either in writing or through web site (www.punjabteched.com/www.punjabteched.net).

Caution:-

The Board does not guarantee that these amendments shall be incorporated in the application form.

 

How can I send the original draft which I failed to enclose with the application form?

The draft may be sent by post with full details giving  Application Form Number, name, father's name and complete address in order to ensure that the bank draft is not misplaced.

 

When will I get my Admit Card after I have sent my JET Application Form?
The  admit card will be sent by post before the test. If the candidates do not receive Admit Card on or before the specified date, which is published in the notification of JET inserted by the Board in the leading newspapers, then the candidates may seek a duplicate Admit Card from the office of the Board. Candidates can also view the status of their application by visiting website of the Board www.punjabteched.com  / www.punjabteched.net 

 

When can a candidate know his/her Roll no., place of test, etc. ?

All the relevant  details are mentioned on the Admit Card of the candidate. However, even before the Admit Card is posted to the candidate, these details can be looked up on the web site www.punjabteched.com  / www.punjabteched.net 

 

In case the candidate does not receive the admit card by the specified date, then how can he get a duplicate Admit Card?

Candidates are advised to wait for the receipt of Admit Card till the date specified in the advertisement inviting application for JET. If they do not get the Admit Card by the due date then they can get  duplicate admit card from the office of the Board located at Chandigarh  after verification of the submission of application form, deposit of requisite fee, postal proof or receipt issued by the Board/Bank. The candidates are advised to retain with them photocopies of the filled Application Forms and Bank Drafts being submitted by them. Duplicate Admit Card can only be issued after submission of copy of the submitted Application Form and Bank Draft/acknowledgement slip from the Bank. However, the Board reserves the right of not issuing duplicate Admit Card if in the opinion of the Board such an issue is not justified. The decision of the Board in this regard shall be binding on the prospective candidates. 

 

Can  candidates request for change in JET examination centre?

No.  The centre once allotted can not be changed under  in any circumstances.

 

Candidates should carry which documents to the examination centre?

While coming to the examination centre, the candidates are required to carry only their admit card.

 

When will the JET result  be declared and how can I find out my result?

The date of  the  declaration of the result of J.E.T.  will be notified in the press within 15 days from the date of examination held.  The complete result will be available on web site of the  Board ( www.punjabteched.com / www.punjabteched.net ).  A copy of  the result will also be available in all the affiliated polytechnics / institutions  and in the office of  the Board. The result will also be sent by post to each of those candidates appearing in the examination.

 

Can the result of JET be re-evaluated or re-checked ?

No, not at all.

 

How can a candidate get the duplicate result card, if it is not received by post? 

The duplicate result card will be issued by the Board  on the written request of the candidate. The candidate has to show the proof of having appeared in the examination.

 

FAQS of Central Admission - JET

 

Is a candidate required to submit another admission form for appearing in the interview/counselling?

Yes.  The candidate is required to submit another admission form as per instructions given in the JET prospectus. Admission Form will be available at the end of the JET Prospectus and to be submitted after the declaration of JET result.

 

Is the admission application form to be submitted to the institution concerned, where the admission is sought?

No.  The candidate is required to send  application form directly to the Board and not to any  of the institution/agency/ coaching centre.   The forms submitted through the institution/agency/coaching centre will not be entertained/accepted.

 

What is the duration of a Diploma course ?

Is there any separate test for seeking admission in Central Tool Room, Ludhiana?

Candidates who have qualified in JET are eligible to seek admission in Central Tool Room, Ludhiana. However, they are required to pass in an aptitude test to be conducted by the Board.  Date, time and venue of this test shall be notified by the Board in leading newspapers.

 

What is the minimum percentage to qualify JET and be eligible for admission?

All candidates who score minimum 15% marks(10% for  Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes) in J.E.T. are eligible to apply for admission.

 

How a candidate will know the date and place of interview/counselling ?  Will written intimation to this effect will be sent by the Board?

No separate interview/counselling letter will be issued to the individual for appearing in the interview/counselling.  The interview schedule will be notified in the leading newspapers and will also be available on the Board's web site www.punjabteched.com / www.punjabteched.net

 

Can the date of interview/counselling be postponed/preponed?

No.  The date of interview/counselling cannot be postponed/preponed under any circumstances.  However, if a candidate does not or cannot appear for counselling on the specified date, can appear before the Central Admission Team on any other day when the admissions are being made for candidates who have scored marks lower than him in his category. Such a candidate shall be offered the seat as per availability at the time of his appearance before the Central Admission Team. Therefore it is very important for a candidate to appear for counselling on the date and time notified by the Board for his category to maintain his priority for allocation of a seat. 

 

In the absence of candidate, can any body else attend the counselling/interview on his behalf?

Ordinarily the candidates are required to appear before the Central Admission Committee for allocation of seats..  However, in case circumstances beyond the control of candidate like sever illness, death of an immediate family member, accident etc, the candidate may depute one of his parents/family members to appear before the Central Admission Committee. Such an authorisation should  be confirmed by the District Magistrate/Sub Divisional Magistrate under whose jurisdiction candidate's home falls.  Based on the written request of the candidate, under extreme circumstances the Chairperson/Secretary of the Board may allow a candidate to be represented by someone else if in their opinion such a proxy representation is justified. Such a request shall also be accompanied by an undertaking that a seat selected by the person so authorised by the candidate shall be deemed to have been selected by the candidate himself and at no stage he shall be allowed to change the seat so allotted.

 

Are the provisional certificate issued by the authorities accepted at the time of interview/counselling?

No.   

 

Does the Board grant admission in respect of candidates who have actually been declared pass in matriculation examination and issued  certificate by the Punjab School Education Board, but  have failed in  one of the subject?

The admission is granted, if there is a  pass certificate issued by the Punjab School Education Board/other Boards  and  the candidate has passed in subjects of English, Mathematics and  Science. If a candidate has not passed Punjabi language of Matriculation standard then he is  required to pass the test of Punjabi to be conducted by the Board, within one year from the date of admission failing which his admission shall be considered null and void.

 

What is meant by 85% seat and 15% seats?

Out of the total seats in each course, 85% seats are meant for the resident of Punjab and 15% seats  for residents of other states on All India basis.

 

Candidates should carry which documents at the time of his/her counselling ?

Whether  a resident of Punjab can get admission in UT?

A resident of Punjab can get admission in UT under 15% quota.

 

Can I change my choice of Course/Institute once accepted at the time of Counselling?

The candidate can seek admission only once. A seat once accepted by the candidate shall not be changed and the fee deposited along with security shall not be refunded.

 

Can a candidate without requisite fee be considered for admission?

No, candidate without requisite fee/charges shall not be considered for admission.

 

Can I take admission under two categories?

No, you cannot take admission under two categories . The candidates can seek admission only once.

 

FAQS of Examination

 

What is the minimum eligibility of the lectures counted?

A student has to secure 75% (overall) attendance in theory and practical and minimum 60% attendance in each subject (separately).

 

Can the attendance be condoned on medical grounds?

Yes, shortage in attendance can be condoned upto 5% on medical grounds by the principal provided the medical certificate is submitted by the candidate within 7 days of his return from Medical leave.

 

Can a candidate continue his studies after having been out of the institution?

Yes, but not more the 2 years due to any reason except those who have been debarred due to UMC. The period of 2 years shall be counted from Semester to Semester and not from the date of candidate actually leaves the institution and further has to apply for re-admission at the institute with a fee of Rs 100/-.

 

Can the candidate gets promoted to the higher class inspite of the reappear?

A candidate who fails to clear the reappear subject of first semester shall not be allowed to the 4th semester. A candidate who fails to clear the reappear papers of 2nd semester shall not be allowed to the 5th semester. Similarly, a candidate who fails to clear the reappear papers of 3rd semester shall not be allowed to the 6th semester.

 

On what basis candidate can be detained?

The candidate is detained either due to the shortage of attendance or due to non-clearance of the lower examination.

 

How the grace marks are awarded?

The quantum of grace marks shall not exceed one percent of the maximum of theory and practical papers pertaining to particular semester / class and it is permissible if by awarding the same, they are able topass in all the subjects.

 

What is the provision of grace marks for improving the division? 

One percent of the total marks of theory examination of all the semesters may be given for improving the division of a candidate. Grace marks given to a candidate in semester examination may be deducted from the total grace marks to be given for improvement of the division. 

 

Can a candidate apply for rechecking?

Yes.

 

What is the procedure of applying for the rechecking?

An application from the student forwarded through the principal accompanied with requiste fee of Rs. 75/- per subject and original DMC of the candidate.  

 

Is there any time limit to apply for rechecking?

Within 20 days of the receipt of the DMCs.

 

Can the candidate apply for re-evaluation?

Re-evaluation is permissible if a candidate secures 60% marks in each semester and minimum 30% in the subject in which the candidate seeks for the re-evaluation. Only two chances will be given to a student in his entire tenure of diploma.

 

Can a candidate get the duplicate DMC/Diploma/Registration Card?

Yes

 

What is the procedure of getting any duplicate Certificate?

The Board has the provision for issue of duplicate certificates in case the student losses the original certificate.  The following duplicate certificates may be issued by the Board.

Transcripts

 

It is clarified to the students that duplicate certificates shall  be issued only once and not repeatedly.

For the issue of duplicate certificates the students shall make an application on plain paper giving the details of already issued certificate along with an affidavit duly attested from notary public on a stamp paper of Rs. 2/- to 5/-.   The application shall be accompanied with a fee of Rs. 200/- per certificate in cash or demand draft.

 

The request for duplicate certificates are processed within a period of 8 to 10 days and the relevant certificates are issued to the eligible cases.

 

Since the available data in the Board’s office pertains to only after 1993, it is clarified that duplicate certificates shall be issued to only those cases, which pertains to 1993 and onwards.

 

Is there any fee for getting ‘No Objection Certificate’.

No, Only an application along with the attested copies of all the semester of the DMCs is required.  

 

Which documents candidate should carry to the examination?

The candidates are required to carry only the admit card issued by the Board, while coming to the examination center.

 

Can a candidate apply for the ‘Improvement Exam’ after being pass out from the Institute?

Yes, however such students will be allowed to take the examination only once and that too in the ensuing December examination when the supplementary exam for the 6th semester is conducted and marks obtained in Dec exam will be considered as final marks.

 

What is the procedure to apply for the ‘Improvement Exam’?

A written request from the student indicating the subject of the 6th semester in which the candidate seeks for improvement and requisite fee of Rs1000/- as demand draft in favour of the Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Chandigarh. The student is also required to submit the original DMC/Diploma.

 

In case the candidate doesnot receive the admit card by the specified date, then how can he get a duplicate admit card?

In case a candidate donot get the admit card by the specified date, they can contact the Board. Admit Card will be issued on the written request of the candidate on production of proof of fees and after confirming his OMR sheet /APF form which he has filled on the specified dates.

 

When are the migrations allowed ?

Migration is allowed either in the 3rd semester or in the 5th semester.  

 

Do the candidate has to apply for getting the Diploma Certificate.

Diploma certificates for the candidates who are admitted from the year 1999 onwards will be issued directly at the level of Board without asking for any kind of documents from the student or from the institute. However, for the candidates prior to 1999 batch are required to apply through the Principal along with a demand draft of Rs. 50/- in favour of the Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Chandigarh.

Is the trade change permissible during 5th semester?

No, not at all. It is permissible only in the 3rd  semester.

 

What are the eligibility conditions for the migration?

The conditions for migration are as under:

a.  The student has passed the 1st semester/ 1st year in the very first attempt.

b.  Migration depends upon availability of seat in a particular institute.

c.  Migrations are allowed on the inter-se merit of the marks obtained in the 1st semester/ 1st year.

d.  Migration applications are received in the Board’s office in the prescribed proforma (available in the institutes) with No Objection Certificate from the parental institute.

e.  Migration applications are invited between 15th July to 14th August every year.

f.   The duly completed migration applications to be accompanied by a fee of Rs. 500/- in the form of demand draft payable to Secretary Punjab State Board of Tech. Education and Industrial Training.

g.  Migration applications are processed with in a week from the closing date and Migration orders are issued to the concerned student with the copy to the institutes.

h.  The student who is migrated shall pay dues proportionately to both the institutes.

 

What are the eligibility conditions for the trade change cases?

Candidates must clear 1st and 2nd semester during the first attempt and apply along with the requisite fee of Rs.250/- as demand draft in favour of the Secretary, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Chandigarh.

 

Under what conditions permission to attend guest classes is given?

On request of the students and on specific reasons like medical, family circumstances etc. students may be permitted to attend classes as a guest student in the 2nd institute (other than the parental institute) for a specific period.
The students shall submit application on plain paper with a request for the guest classes and enclosing relevant document to the Secretary, Punjab State Board of Tech. Education and Industrial Training.  The application should be accompanied with a fee of Rs. 200/- either in cash or demand draft.
The applications are processed with in a period of one week from the date of receipt and suitable orders are issued depending upon the eligibility

 

What is the procedure of issue of transcript?

·    “Transcripts” a comprehensive document covering the performance of student during the period of diploma course. 

·    For the admission batches of 2002 onwards the transcripts are issued to the pass out students without inviting any application form from the students. However, for admission batches prior to 2002 transcripts are issued on a written request from the students.

·    For the issue of transcript the student shall apply on a plain paper giving the details of Registration no., year of passing, Name of the institute etc.  This application shall be accompanied by attested photocopies of the Detail Marks Cards of all the semesters / years.  Rs. 100/- in the form of cash or demand draft is charged as fee for issue of transcript. Transcripts are issued within a week of receipt of application.

In case the public authority refuses / declines to divulge the information or copy of the document, the citizen has a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at State level.

There is no prescribed application form.  However the student will submit the case on a plain paper indicating the Registration no. year of completion of the diploma, with the request of issue No Objection Certificate.

Copy of the diploma certificate/ copy of the DMC’s of all the semesters/ year/ provisional certificate from the institute.

·    Procedure of application:

The application may be made in person in the Board’s office or sent through post.

·    Process followed in the Public Authority after the receipt of application:

After receipt of the application, the case is verified with the available database in the Board to check the fact that the student has completed the diploma course before issuing the NOC.

·    Normal time taken for issuance of certificate:

Normally the NOC’s are issued within two hours from the receipt of applications.

 

18.5    With relation to registration process.

·    Objective:

The issue of Registration Cards to the students of diploma / ITI courses establishes bonafied association of the student with the Board.

·    Eligibility for registration:

Those students who seek admission in various diploma courses and ITI trades will be issued with the Registration Cards.

The cases for allocation of Registration numbers and the issue of Registration cards is normally through the Principal of the institute where the student is pursuing the diploma or the ITI course.

·    Application Fee (Wherever applicable):

Rs. 100/- per student.

There is no specified forms for the Registration, however, the  Principal of the institute is requested to send the case of Registration in the format given below.
